We're baking brownies. We're baking brownies because I have so much cocoa powder that's been sitting in the pantry for the past few months.
We're baking brownies because S has been badgering me about it last night but most of all we're baking brownies today because It's Monday and I needed a non-depressing reason to get up and leave my bed.
Normally, I use baking chocolates when baking brownies but since we have a lot of cocoa that's waiting to expire, I googled (see how google is part of my daily activities) a recipe that called for cocoa instead of baking chocolate bars. That's when I found Alice Medrich's Cocoa Brownie Recipe. It's really easy to do and the ingredients are easily available too.
The first time I baked brownies, they didn't set at all! My next few attempts were barely edible. To be honest, I just started baking somewhat successful brownies and even though my kids are happy with my recent triumphs, I'm still on the lookout for the ultimate chocolate-y fudge-y and gooey brownie.
I mostly followed the recipe but I added an extra step of cooling the melted chocolate before adding the cooled eggs. This, according to Alice Medrich, would yield into a chewy brownie instead of a cake-y one.
I'll be doing another post with photos of how I baked my version of Alice Medrich's Cocoa Brownies. This, I can tell you though, this recipe is definitely a keeper if you're a fan of chewy and chocolatey brownies. :)
